Discount Card U.P. Bike Week
The Lake Superior Circle Tour has been the premier motorcycling road trip in the Midwest since the 1960's. It's a ride that takes you across Michigan's Upper Peninsula up through Canada and then back down through Minnesota and Wisconsin. As far as road trips go, this one should be at the top of every biker's bucket list. While not solely a U.P. motorcycling event, I've decided to include it on U.P. Cruising's events page because so much of the ride includes Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The U.P. charts in with 520 miles claiming the most tour miles on the ride. Next comes Canada with approximately 485 miles followed by Minnesota and Wisconsin. Of course, that's not taking in side trips also known as scenic spurs. Along the tour route you'll find signs like those below.
In January of 2009 my attention was drawn to the Lake Superior Circle Tour when Tom Wilkowske, writer for Lake Superior Magazine, contacted me about a article he was writing on motorcycling the Lake Superior Circle Tour. Having seen a number of maps laying out the Circle Tour route through Michigan's Upper Peninsula, I has happy to have some input into some of my favorite locations. By the way, If you're interested that article can be read in the 2009 April Issue of Lake Superior Magazine.
If you're thinking about doing a Lake Superior Circle tour, I recommend you pay a visit to the Lake Superior Magazine website. It contains a wealth of information about riding around the lake. In addition to maps, the website also has a Lake Superior Circle Tour Comments Page where travelers posted comments from there rides listing favorite places along the route. For those riders who are a little hesitant of making the ride solo, I see where an organization called Wolf's Head Motorcycle Rally out of Minnesota stages Lake Superior Circle Tour rides every summer. It's going to require a passport to get you across the border into Canada. For information on getting a passport book or card, visit the Travel.State.Gov website. I opted for both the book and the card, filled out the forms and took them to my local city clerks office. I understand that many local US Post Offices can provide you with assistance and a passport well as they may be able to take care of you. With U.P. Cruising now promoting the Lake Superior Circle Tour, we've been reaching out to businesses along the Canada, Minnesota and Wisconsin legs of the tour route to see if they'd be interested in participating in our biker discount program. I was immediately contacted by several businesses in Ontario, Canada requesting to join the program. I'd like to welcome all Canadian businesses to the U.P. Cruising Biker Discount Program. - Grayrider Listed below, is some general information I've assembled on the roads, sights and links to related websites. Over the coming months I'll be updating it as I get feedback from other bikers who've make the ride. Below each write-up is a list of biker friendly businesses who participate in our biker discount program. NOTE: This page is still under construction with a lot more to come, so please stop by from time to time for updates.
